Overview

This 1988 Pearson 37-II sailing sloop is a comfortable long-distance cruiser for two people, weekend cruiser for four (with 2 sleeping on settee reconfigured into a double bed) or day cruiser for six or more.  With a draft less than five feet, it’s ideal for shallow harbors in New England and the Chesapeake yet heavy enough (6,000 lbs. of ballast) to ride Atlantic rollers.  Jib lines, main sheets and the main halyard run back to the cockpit so the boat can be sailed single handed.  The traveler is conveniently located in front of the companionway and dodger and accessible from the cockpit.  The boat only uses half to two-thirds of a gallon of fuel per hour when motoring or motor sailing @ 1900 rpm.

The cockpit has two large lazarettes. Each has two shelves which run the full length of the lazarette.  A large compartment under the forward berth provides additional storage for infrequently used items such as spare sails, sail bags and the emergency tiller.

The main engine is accessed from a) the starboard lazarette, b) behind the companionway or c) through a small door in the shower to reach the dip stick.  The inverter and house batteries are in the starboard lazarette, and the generator is in the port lazarette.

The Pearson 37-2 was nicknamed the “Condo” by designer Bill Shaw due to its large galley and the layout of the main salon.  The main salon has a settee long enough to double as a berth for two adults.  The table in front of the settee can be raised for dining or lowered to become a coffee table.  A sleeping compartment forward has a raised double bed in the shape of a hexagon with a step on each side to climb into bed or access the storage compartments beneath it.  In addition, this forward compartment has two clothes drawers, two closets and two storage bins under the mattress for dirty clothes or foul weather gear.   Instead of a quarterdeck berth, this boat has a walk-in shower.  The large galley includes a standard-size kitchen sink, two-burner electric cooktop, microwave, a chest-type refrigerator, and plenty of counter space.  A generator provides AC power to run a coffee maker, toaster, refrigerator, or an electric range.  An inverter provides AC power for other small appliances and chargers.  Lighting includes LED ceiling lights, some with a red option, counter-top and floor lights.
