2012 MJM Yachts 40z Express

location icon Westbrook, United States
Year 2012
Length 40 ft

LEQUIPE is a stunning example of a 2012 MJM 40. Her nearly perfect majestic blue topsides, off white decks, sand colored non skid, cream canvas and teak cockpit and bridge deck add to the classic look of the 40. Mechanically she has had the best of care and her low hour Volvo pod 370’s are one of the reasons why she handles like a much smaller boat away from and around the dock.

There are roll up strato-glass enclosures on the sides, which offers great airflow, and access to line handling, if you operate single handed.  Nice side loading doors both port and starboard makes for easy boarding. The cockpit bimini top provides your guests with shade, but can easily be stowed or removed. There is ample storage through out. Below deck is a well appointed galley, dinette, master berth, stand up shower, and head. The convertible dinette, double as a second bed, with a privacy curtain.

So much has been written about the MJM 40 and for good reason. LEQUIPE should be on anyone's short list if they are thinking about an express cruiser in this size range.

Manufacturer Provided Description

The primary design goal for the 40z was to create a 40 foot powerboat that would handle like a 30-footer at idle speeds in tricky docking situations. The Volvo-Penta IPS or Cummins Mercruiser AXIUS joystick control technology makes this goal a reality. The IPS system works with twin pod drives under the hull and the Cummins with twin sterndrives. When conventional twin-engine controls are in neutral, a single joystick takes over with fingertip control. There are no thrusters. Through a unique computer program, each drive unit is independently operated in terms of direction, rpm and forward-reverse gear. This system works far more intuitively than conventional twin shaft drives or joystick/thruster operated jet drives

The “Express” differs from the standard “Downeast” model only in pilothouse window styling. The side opening on the “Express” is divided in two parts. The lower section of safety glass has a small, opening vent window forward. This model has more hard glass enclosure if one prefers to partially open the sides in warm, rough conditions. The lower glass enclosure helps to contain small children on the pilothouse seats and also provides a lower handrail on the outside of the window frame by which small children can better work their way forward to the bowrail...instead of having to depend on the roof rails.

Some of the unique features of an MJM40z:

  • Side opening doors into the cockpit for ease of entry and handling lines
  • Roll-up side and aft curtains to completely open up the deck and create a porch atmosphere
  • Roll-up window allows helmsman to reach the spring line and secure the boat while docking solo
  • Single level seating on deck for 12 - 15

The owners' stateroom is forward and features a large (60" x 78") island berth with side access.  There are four drawers at the end of the berth and a large storage area underneath.  A hanging locker is to port.  Book shelves and reading lights are at the head of the berth.  Two overhead hatches provide star-gazing and ventilation.  Hatches and ports all have ocean air, retractable shades, and screens.  Access to the head and separate stall shower is from this stateroom.  The queen berth has a latex mattress with custom fitted sheets, designer bedspread, pillows and towels.

The head is located to port with dual entry from the salon or forward cabin.  Vacuflush toilet, Corian counters with polished oval sink and mixer spigot.  Cherry storage locker outboard with sliding doors and towel storage shelf above.  Opening port and overhead hatch for ventilation.

Stand alone separate stall shower is to starboard with a seat and a towel and toiletry bin outboard.

The salon has a dinette across from the galley with two athwartship settees and a cherry table that drops with an electronic control to make a 78" berth.  An opaque linen curtain anchors to the ceiling to make this a private sleeping area;  Large opening ports;  Flat screen LED TV is mounted on angled bulkhead facing settee.  Off-white Nevamar paneling with satin varnished cherry cabinetry doors and trim.  Cabin sole is varnished teak and holly.

The galley is opposite the dinette with Corian counters, cherry paneled cabinetry, and push button hardware.  Plenty of storage in lockers and drawers.  Stainless Isotherm 5.5 cubic foot two-drawer  refrigerator/freezer.  Ceramic two-burner electric stove with pop-up retainers;  Convection/ microwave oven.
